EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

Technology is one of the things that is constantly changing in this world. A quick trip down memory lane would surely reward those who would care to see that technology is something that can improve through education and innovation.

Educational technology is the process which involves people, ideas, devices, organization, and procedures that are moulded into one concept. With educational technology, people are taught how to analyze problems as well as devise ways to deal with the said problems. Through implementation, management, and evaluation of the processes, solutions can be achieved as a part of human learning.

Hand in hand with instructional design, educational technology can achieve solutions to problems when content and instructional tools are created in order to effectively facilitate learning. These designs make use of design models which instructors adapt as means of relaying the information they wish to share with their subjects.

A sample of the said designs is the ADDIE model. This model includes five phases such as:

  • Analyze - analysis of the learner's characteristics
  • Design - choosing an appropriate approach
  • Develop - creation of learning materials
  • Implement - distribution of the instructional technology
  • Evaluate - checking of the achievement of the project

Among the types of instructional technology designs, the ADDIE model is looked upon as the most current and effective of the models.

Educational technology is a profession that often revolves around computers - as the name implies. Teaching technology is not an easy feat despite the fact that a lot of people are using computers these days. The fact of the matter is that professionals who delve into educational technology are quite few. Not many people choose to extend their knowledge of technology to others since it is one of the subjects that come off as hard to teach.

There are those, however, who do excel in educational technology. These are the professionals who last long and who fully understand the concepts of teaching technology. Most of these professionals make use of the tried and tested models as their guides, and to date, the said models have not yet failed their goals.

Learning about technology might seem like an easy course, but teaching how technology works and how technology can solve problems can come across as a whole new ball game. Those who truly aim to educate may find it educational technology ideal.
